Founded in 1993, PFLAG Lubbock is the oldest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and their families on the South Plains.
Who We Are
-
To create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.
-
An equitable, inclusive world where every LGBTQ+ person is safe, celebrated, empowered, and loved.
-
ACCOUNTABILTY
We hold ourselves and each other responsible in our work. We communicate transparently, respond timely, set clear boundaries, and take ownership of our actions.
BRAVERY
We are courageous in word and deed. We advocate boldly, remain steadfast in the face of adversity, make space for vulnerability, and meet people where they are to have the challenging conversations.
COMMUNITY & COLLABORATION
We lead with love. We center our community, listen with respect and compassion, and derive strength from the collective power of our unified organization.
INCLUSIVITY & BELONGING
We ensure PFLAG is a place where everyone belongs. We listen actively, engage with cultural humility, and ensure that the power of diverse people, cultures, and stories are respected and woven through all areas of our work.
GROWTH
We evolve to ensure PFLAG is strong and current. We approach our work with curiosity, broaden our skills, learn from our mistakes as well as our successes, and adapt to meet the needs of an ever-changing world.
PFLAG is an organization working to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people. We support families, educate allies, and advocate for equality through our network of supporters, members, and chapters across the country.
PFLAG Lubbock has regular meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.
Find us at 7:00 pm at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1501 University Avenue, Lubbock, TX 79401.
We also have several special events during the year, such as an annual picnic, holiday dinner and gift exchange, National Coming Out Day dinners, community events, and speaking engagements.
Monthly Meetings
WHAT TO EXPECT AT MONTHLY MEETINGS
PFLAG Lubbock meetings are a safe place to share our experiences in small groups and support each other in the continuing process of learning, acceptance, and celebration. Our meetings begin at 7:00 pm, but come a few minutes early to meet others and browse materials.
The size of our meetings vary, however, you can expect 15 to 30 people (members and first-time visitors).
The meeting begins with the Chapter President welcoming everyone and making a few announcements. Each month we offer a program that focuses on one of the three primary missions: Support, Education, or Advocacy.
Programs normally last between 30-45 minutes. We will have announcements from the floor after the program, at which time everyone is invited to share any news or concerns that they would like to share. No one will be pressed to share information, and simply listening what others have to say is fine.
Confidentiality is a top priority. Nothing said during sharing or support time will leave our meeting room.
Our organization does not promote one religion or political party or candidate over another. We represent people of many backgrounds, political persuasions, and faiths. All are welcome.
